You are the PJ Sparkles of Life Coaching
How to use your authentic gifts to make the world a brighter place
Many moons ago I used to be OBSESSED with a TV program called, PJ Sparkles. It wasn’t as popular as the similar show, Rainbow Brite, but my grandma didn’t have a video tape of Rainbow Brite, she had PJ Sparkles, so PJ Sparkles was who I most wanted to be when I grew up. She was bright and sparkly, beautiful and she always helped other people feel better about themselves. The little soul spark inside of me knew that this too was my calling.
I am now a coach for coaches. I help life coaches and healers build their business in a way that lights themselves up, and also gives them the opportunity to light others up too! There are many consistencies with PJ Sparkles and life coaching, a few of which I’ll outline below.

Be Who You are
Don't try to be someone you’re not. For years I tried on many different coaching facades. I’ve worked with many of the top coaches in the industry and so I thought if I emanated each of them, I would be successful too. As it turned out, I realized that each of these multi-millionaire coaches had gotten to where they were through one simple thing: being themselves. None of them tried to be like the others, they all found their own authenticity and they shared it with the world.
Figure out who you are and then do it on purpose.” —Dolly Parton
Authenticity is your greatest asset. It is brought forth by utilizing a mixture of the following:
Working with your own life coach
Practicing Self Expression
Reading appropriate books
We must practice living in alignment with our true selves before we can help others do the same.
Your job is to call out the soul spark in others
Your job is not to fix them or heal them or tell them what to do. Rather, it is to call forth their own inner sparkle, so that they can then turn around and share their joy with the world.
In the PJ Sparkles theme video, you can see that she shares her heart with others, and in turn the heart in their chest lights up and illuminates the world around them. This is the best depiction I can find of life coaching. You are here to light the heart-flame inside the dark spaces of your clients.
It’s okay to be different
I remember some episode of PJ Sparkles where the main character, PJ, struggled with the fact that she was different from her peers. Her uniqueness came from her ability to spread light to others. Her friends did not have this ability, and that sometimes left PJ feeling awkward and alone.
As a bearer of love and light, there will be times when you feel completely alone in your mission to create a better world. That’s okay. It’s part of the journey. My best advice to you would be to make sure you are consistently working with a coach who can keep your light bright. It’s also important to find your own tribe of light bearers – other coaches who have a similar mission as yours. These fellow sparklers will help you feel less alone in dark times.
Embrace your uniqueness and wear it boldly as a crown upon your head. You are a rainbow – unique, glorious and spreading joy around the world.
You are not responsible for other people’s feelings
At times, PJ Sparkles felt overwhelmingly responsible for others. She was the source of light and strength for her dark town, and so she had a great responsibility for a very young girl. You may feel this way too at times. That’s okay. Allow yourself to feel whatever you need to feel, but also know without a shadow of a doubt that you are not responsible for the feelings of others, including your clients.
As someone whose job is to share truth, light and motivation – sometimes that truth and motivation can be hard hitting. You aren’t a people pleaser in these moments. You are a coach. You are here to call out the bravery, courage and brightness in others. Do so fearlessly.
