Why I created this piece

Big Bertha is a depiction of my journey through the deepest part of grief. In the months soon following my father’s sudden passing, I turned to art and writing to comfort myself. Big Bertha’s name is two fold — first of all I was encountering the biggest hurdle of my life thus far. Loosing Dad was a very big hardship. Secondly, this canvas for the original piece was 4 foot by 3 foot — one of my largest pieces to date.

Bertha holds a lot of emotion. In the top left is a sun-like object that holds a spontaneous poem about purpose — a reason to keep going when everything seems dark. The bottom part of the painting is darker, the valleys. Speaking of which, there is a phrase that came through in the work, “peaks and crags” which echoes how I felt during my journey. Some days were normal-ish, the next day would be a total and complete mess. Still, I had to journey on. We all have to journey on, no matter what hardships we face. That’s the journey of life that is symbolized in this piece. It may be messy, unpredictable or “sporadic” but it’s our journey to love.

Many of my clients find symbols, meaning and feelings within their piece long after their initial reception of it.  Be open to the colors, images and meanings that stand out at you each time you view it.  

A fun thing I like to recommend  is to rotate the orientation of the canvas periodically.  There is no right side up with this painting!  Rotate and use your imagination to see new aspects of the painting from time to time.

Lastly, everything is energy.  I intentionally pour love and positive, sparkling energy into all of my paintings.  It is my hope that this painting will hold that energy and share it with you when you most need it.  It’s meant to raise your vibration and help you strengthen your own intuition.
